Wonderfully soft long wool scarf, 90% merino wool, 10% cashmere, lovingly eco printed by hand with Eucalyptus Nicholli and Eucalyptus Cinerea [SC234].
 
To enable the wool fibres to take the eucalyptus pigments well, the sweater was soaked in 50% vinegar/50% water overnight. After the leaves were placed on it, it was steamed in my trusty aluminium fish kettle, for two and a half hours.
 
The heat and moisture enabled the leaf pigments to be mobilised and transfer across to the wool fibres. Eucalyptus pigments have a particular affinity for wool fibres, and their high tannin content  means that the prints are wash-fast.
 
The scarf measures  78"/200 cm by 12"/30cm.
